I'm going to try curried goat meat today from my local halal place. This is going to be wild!

That is fantastic!!
My position is informally called "volunteer coordinator" so I'm the go-to person for volunteers Smile

My year's been off to a great start following that pretty bumpy first month.
How's your new position treating you? Any cool stories yet?

I got a $1 pastry in a Jamba Juice scratcher. You can have that if you want.

It's going great. I work about 34 hours a week, mostly 9:30 to 5.

I wouldn't say I have any stories. Usually the most interesting thing that happens is when we suspect someone of theft and have to follow them around, noting the time and place. I usually have two or three other people in the store that I talk to over a headset while we trail a suspect.

We tried a stakeout yesterday on some merchandise that had been stashed in a luggage case, to see if either an employee had stashed it or a customer was planning to come back and defeat the security tags, but nothing really came of it.

It's probably better that I don't see a lot of action really. I don't need to get stabbed over some discount clothes. It's an easy job, where I usually just write a note on my clipboard every fifteen minutes, and spend the rest of the time looking around and thinking about other stuff, like the plot to my new novel, or what I'm going to eat for dinner.

That sounds like a really cool job. I'm in NY but when I go in tomorrow I'll tell them that I'd prefer you be volunteer coordinator. I'm sure they'll be accommodating.

That sounds pretty cool to me. I want to try and find something similar where I live but I'm only available to work weekends so that makes it difficult. For now I'm better off keeping the two jobs I currently have.

That's a good number of hours!
Have you caught any coworkers trying to stash something?
Also, what happens if they're caught stealing? Do they just get fired or do you have to report it to the cops?

Thinking time is good time.

We ran into a possible employee stashed merchandise situation just one day prior, we found a lot of stuff in between luggage cases that we could trace to an employee, but its very difficult to ascertain when she had set the stuff down. If it was during her shift, it's at least a warning.

I think the assistant manager just emails her bosses on what to do.

Re: Tell me

After a manager had spotted the stashed items, I went to recover them and the associate came and picked them up before me and shortly went to the checkout to purchase them.

While employees are allowed (encouraged) to shop, if there's a chance she was breaking our no holds for employees rules, we have to write her up. The problem is, we didn't spot the stash until after she was off, but it was large enough that it seems unlikely she had gathered so much stuff to buy so quickly. On the other hand, maybe she just knew exactly what she wanted.

May be buying a car on Monday. It's a 2000 Hyundai Accent. It seems fine just a super bumpy ride. We didn't qualify for a loan at the dealer and I'm not sure I want to pretend I'm engaged and hit up a bunch of banks to get one so we might scrape enough cash to pay for it al contado, but I'm not sure if it's totally worth it. It has 51k miles and costs $5560 total? Halp.

disregard the traditional banks. Go credit union.

most credit unions even have "partnerships" with used car lots.

BofA/Chase could care less how long I've been a good standing customer with them; they've consistently given me the worst rates.

Nope. If it has problems, it doesn't qualify for excellent condition. Even excellent condition is only worth 4,800 - 5,100 depending on options. Offer them 4k or you'll walk, then settle under 4,500

depress clutch. shift into gear. release clutch.

it's really that easy. Hardest part is finding that sweet spot where it engages first gear.

I don't know how to drive at all and I kind of need a car, know how to drive it and a license in about a month. herherherp that's why we're looking into automatics. After I learn how to drive then Chad can teach me how to drive manual.

Yeah everyone tends to dump first gear, even when they're trying not to.

It's strange to think of adults that don't drive, because I live in the country. Everyone here must drive at 15, it's like a universal right of passage.

I think that's most people in the USA, they learn how to drive in their teens. It just didn't happen with me. I was too busy those years and I always kind of thought I'd die before I actually needed a car, or die in one. I've kind of been trying to avoid that.

High Mileage, but the body looks straight and it's a single owner (most likely older).
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/3690031187.html

This would be my pick. under 100k/low mileage for the year. straight body.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/3687926871.html

Also very nice and only few more miles than the last one.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/cto/3677216176.html

this one is nice, but i dislike how all the lights are lit up on the dash. To be fair, the car is off and the lights might clear after it starts up.

The first posting was deleted Sad

Thank for the links! I'll talk it over with Chad and see if we're down to go through a private party if the Accent doesn't work out. I think that because it isn't going through a dealer I wish the price difference was more. I like the 2000 Civic EX the best but we don't have that much moolah on hand. I don't really want to wait another paycheck before I can buy a car but we might have to.

We're gonna go down to the dealer tomorrow and get the car looked at by our mechanic. We'll see where it goes from there. I'm nervous if we have to pay out of pocket. Money's going to be tight for a bit. I wish I had a credit card or my paypal card could buy me groceries.

So that car will need the shocks replaced.
The dude said if we bought the car he'd pay to get them fixed. That sounds really skeezy. Even if I could get it in writing that part of the deal could easily go wrong. I might consider it if he cut the price.
We're going to keep looking. Might have to wait for my next paycheck, which I didn't want to do but it would help get a better car.

We're going to keep looking. Might have to wait for my next paycheck, which I didn't want to do but it would help get a better car.

I'm almost 1337, guys!

shocks/struts aren't as pricey as they might seem. Look into it being removed from the total value of the car or have it taken care of before purchase.

of course, thats only if that was the only issue with the car.

What year/make/model was the car?

It's a 2000 Hyundai Accent GS. It's this watered down pee color:

It's kind of an ugly car.

Since cars are for transportation and not ego-stroking, I like to buy ugly ones that run exceptionally well.

Nah, just coming across really wrong!

Smile

Although yeah, I've been really upset with the ways of the world and my isolation. As far as I know I'm the only person (around here) that does not drive an extension of my self-esteem. The statement was in no way pointed at you, wise realistic Aleh
