If I know anything about Harvard parties, it's that they're doing it wrong. So, with that in mind, their BDSM club is most likely just pillow fights.

yes, I remember that self-serving film where he played himself and seth rogan played the role of a comedian who still has ambition. Funny People? Complain about how hard it is to be famous and rich, and you've alienated me. Make really lazy comedies and you've bored me.

Sorry Sandman, the 90s were great, but it's time we went our separate ways.

My mom loved comedies. She loved to laugh. When I was a kid, if I did something wrong but I could make my mom laugh, I wouldn't get in trouble. It set a bad precedent, and now when something bad happens I make jokes.

Anyway, comedy is sort of my security blanket, my comfort food, and the biggest connection I feel to other people. If I can laugh with other people, I feel more secure. If I can make people laugh, then I feel like a superhero.

When I said I wanted to be a comedian as a kid, I was not joking. As far back as fourth or fifth grade I was typing bad one liners into my Tandy trying to write a book of jokes. It wasn't something I was very good at though, and when I tried telling jokes or even just saying I wanted to do comedy, people had no qualms about telling me I was bad.

Later in high school I learned sarcasm, satire, irony, and parody and tried again to be a funny person, because I wanted people to like me. Again though, I was unrefined, and often went too far and became obnoxious. I drove people away, certainly. I don't need to tell you guys though, many of you were there.

I guess it turned me off of trying. I don't have the resolve to put myself out there and let people judge me anymore. Not honestly. I've been having a sort of nervous breakdown trying to figure out who or what I'm trying to be. I feel like people won't understand me if I don't tell them about all the shit that I've been through, but I don't want to tell them because I'm afraid they'll think I'm a fucking depressing mess.

Ironically, I guess, a lot of comedians have darker pasts, and I relate to them because of that. I admire them because they turned it around into something that cheers people up. I wish I could do that.

That's why I like comedy.

I love comedy and laughing but comedy movies don't tend to do it for me and I'm fairly picky about comedians too. That being said I really like seeing stand-up comedy, even when it's bad. There's something awesome in seeing someone perform even if they're not very good, and sometimes how bad they are is also very entertaining and interesting - kind of like crowd watching but one person.

My favorite comedians usually have some nasty skeletons. Have you considered standup comedy? It seems like a good release but works better with a lot of structure unless you're good at improving through crowd interaction. Just going to an open mic night can help if you want to start doing standup, just seeing how some comedians grow and develop is awesome and you might see that you could be much better than other and give it a shot!

If you can catch Brendan Lynch perform you should, he is sooo good and I think you'd like him. Definitely my favorite comedian in the Bay Area. He doesn't like being videotaped so you wont have much luck finding his stuff online. He's great with hecklers and does amazing crowdwork.

You're right, a lot of comedies they put out are not aimed at us, or if they are, they're doing it wrong. Some of the best comedy I've experienced lately has been in podcast form via Doug Loves Movies, Comedy Bang Bang or one of the other stand up based shows. I've also started watching The League recently, and I think that's really funny. It reminds me of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but less over the top. Several funny comedians in the cast.

I don't know that I can do stand up. Maybe I'll start trying to write down jokes every day until some of them are actually funny and see what comes of it.

I'll check out The League!
I don't listen to podcasts on my own, mostly just overhear whatever Chad is listening to. He tends to listen to Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast and anything Norm Macdonald appears in.

I watch standup comedy on the old youtubes and try to go to shows around here when I can. Mostly it's going to see open mic standup every week or so and the ocassional big show, like Doug Stanhope.

This is definitely true. I've seen a number of first timers go on stage with a completely wrong and phony character or voice. Lots of 'em try to be like Andrew Dice Clay (yawn) and just suck terribly at it, nevermind the jokes but the stage presence is just so phony and awkward.
I like comedians how have a good range, but tend to like either the really introspective sets (where the comedian seems totally unaware he's on stage or just doesn't care about the audience reaction) and comedians who can really work crowds well and work off them.

Women are nuts. when you pursue them, they tell their friends that "oh, no hot guys like me (sheds tear)" or wonder why they "cant find a boyfriend and be in a relationship" when they exercise their option to not date you, they should be lucky they have that option to exercise and stop complaining because it isnt cute anymore. its passively cruel to other people.

^^^i was going to post this on fb as it is directed at a girl i have been courting but i pussied out and decided against the drama.... the thing is, im probably too good looking for her. shes probably a 5 on a 10 scale but she has a nice rack and she has a cool personality... its just aggravating how she publicly says things to her friends that i can see..."no hot guys like me" "im all alone" "i dont have a bf".....WTF she could have a boyfriend in me. we hung out so many times, fooled around but didnt seal the deal, and we get along pretty well. she even wanted me to come in to boston yesterday to lay with her on her couch and watch movies....

She's not interested in you?
So what if you think you're hot and you would make a good boyfriend for her. Maybe she's just not into you. You could be hot, funny, available but that in itself doesn't make someone attractive. I'd move past her and look for someone else lest you decide to be that bitter "nice guy" (which is hardly ever nice) and cry friendzone. She probably doesn't want you as a boyfriend and she doesn't have to. "why can't I be in a relationship" doesn't mean with anyone. She must have someone or certain traits in mind that you aren't or do not have.

That you can see her saying these things should be a pretty good indication she's not interested in you unless you're not being very direct about your intentions. If you are then take those comments as what they are: an indirect and non-confrontational rejection. Now you can spend your time courting someone who wants to be courted by you.

Sucks to hear it, bruh. Seems like relationships happen when one person finally gives in and dates someone they initially had no interest in.

There's a girl I'm planning on asking out (after I get my paycheck on the 15th, lol). Just found out from her friend that she's "sorta" single, which supposedly means that she can date whoever, but she might be hesitant about it for whatever reason that is so far unclear.

I'm pretty straightforward and borderline forceful with my approach. Most likely, what I'll do is call her up and say something along the lines of, "Hey, do you have any days off coming up? ...... I'm thinking you and I should go to [some nice place]. Seriously, let's go." I feel like this small amount of force and decisiveness exudes the same type of leadership that a girl would look for in a guy.

I already planted a seed in her head last week when I saw her at the House of Blues last week and told her that we were gonna hang out soon.

That's not to say I'm not nervous about it. I totally am. I guess I've just learned to bottle that shit up when it's go time. Something to do with being old and not giving a fuck anymore.

How did she lead you on?

IMO women are hesitant to hurt dudes' feeling so we'll turn dudes down softly but the dudes really into you/aggressive will ignore subtlety. I've been called a bitter cunt after telling someone I wasn't interested. That sucks so now I take a more subtle approach unless dude is a meat head.

She may have lead you on, or she may have been subtle. Do you like being friend's with her?
