Re: FOOZBALL SEASON HAS ARRIVED
Last year I worked on Sundays and I hated that. This year I have Sundays off. I'm also an fan. I hope I'm not disappointed but currently stoked for regular season play.

I saw a Foosball table converted into a coffee table. I thought it looked pretty cool.

Re: FOOZBALL SEASON HAS ARRIVED
at least alex smith has a high ceiling he probably will never reach. culpepper reached his ceiling a long time ago. alex smith was awesome when norv was his OC. supposedly jim harbaugh is just as QB friendly, considering what he accomplished with andrew luck.

Re: FOOZBALL SEASON HAS ARRIVED
@winter - so I'm not a San Diego fan but I find myself liking Tolbert a lot. I'm not sure why I just like his running style. A bit of a bruiser, run at you, style but still great at being a back that can catch and play off the catch.
My question to you(and if you're not an SD fan, like I thought I noticed, nevermind) is what are your thoughts on Mathews vs. Tolbert? Mathews is a good back albeit with health issues constantly. I just think Tolbert is better and deserves more than the red zone, even then only part time, carries they give him.

Re: FOOZBALL SEASON HAS ARRIVED
Yes, I'm a fan all the way through.
Mike Tolbert pisses me off just as much as he delights me with his running style. He seems to move extremely gracefully for a 240lb back, and it's ridiculous how well he catches out of the backfield and can make cuts as if he's 60 pounds lighter.
However, his AI is broken. His pathfinding skills are often buggy as hell, and he takes routes that don't always fit with the play design. Sometimes he'll avoid a huge hole with plenty of running space because he wants to reverse direction in the backfield, and it drives me absolutely insane when he does it. It's like, dude, you're 240+ pounds. Quit dancing behind the quarterback and move vertically (Michael Turner was one of the best RBs we've had at running vertically.) There's also the problem of fumbling. Ugh. Overall, he seems to be the best redzone option we have, though. Fuck, I miss having Darren Sproles.
I like Ryan Mathews much better than Mike Tolbert. Ryan Mathews always seems to make much better decisions in the backfield and in the open field, and is just more consistent at picking up positive yardage. Plus, the dude is FAST, has a great stiff arm, and unbelievable balance, and knows how to keep his knees from touching grass when people are tackling him. This is why he picks up such huge chunks of yardage almost every play. I'm also sick and tired of him getting hurt though, but I called that before he ever left college. His style of running was too upright, and he can be too much of an action-hero at times. That leads to his injuries and his fumbles. Fuck, I miss having Sproles.
Ideally, I'd love to have someone that runs in the style of Ray Rice or Ben Tate. I loved watching Ben Tate at Auburn because he had the PERFECT pad level, and had an unstoppable motor. He carries a LOT of momentum. Too bad he plays behind Arian Foster, because I think in the right situation, Ben Tate can blossom into one of the best backs in the league. A Gary Kubiak system is great for almost any runningback, but Arian Foster is playing out of his mind and should rightfully get those carries. I'd like to point out that Ben Tate has a much better ypc average though. Teach this guy how to block and catch and he'll be the one of the best. Fuck, I wish we still had Darren Sproles.

Re: FOOZBALL SEASON HAS ARRIVED
Ok. That's more or less what I wanted. An educated observation from someone who watches SD closely. I don't watch him enough to notice a lack of vision. That makes loads of difference.
Sometimes it's just experience to really give a back that kind of advantage, though. I know with Shady McCoy that asshole would drive me nuts. Talented and fast with no idea where he was going or what he was changing direction for until this year. I wonder if better awareness will come to Tolbert eventually.
After you went through those points I can tell that my opinion of him is more based on his entertaining running style than his ability. Though his running style definitely gets him places at times.
Tate's a badass and anyone who's getting as many carries as he is behind a healthy(for the most part) Arian Foster has earned a starting position on almost every team in the NFL if he ever finds himself elsewhere.

Both these teams suck so bad. And Ed Hochuli should find a new line of work.

We're down to 3rd string guys on our O-line now. Oakland always outmuscles the shit out of us and injures our linemen. But it's not like Rivers has been playing well WITH protection, so it really doesnt matter. We're fucked.

rereading as a double entendre was good until I go to "we're fucked". Far too direct that way.

Maybe not so much now that Caleb Hanie is their starting quarterback.

If Chicago's defense can hold up then Hanie will be alright. Bears are still in the game.winterborne1 wrote:StateTrooper wrote:Contra wrote:the bears are a good football team

I don't think I've ever been happy the Pats beat the shit out of a team before. Even when I bet on them I'm not that happy when they cover. It's a weird feeling.
