I recently started to work out again after years of getting fatter. After 9 weeks I've gone from bench pressing 185 3 times, now I maxed out at 255 three times today. I also ran an 8 minute mile on sunday. Pretty pumped about it

I've been doing 4 days of weights. Arms,Legs,Chest,Core. Then one day of cardio in between and after the Arms and Chest days I've been doing some more cardio. So far with an improved diet the results have been good.

I've been doing pretty much the same, I do run every time I go I just do light runs on days I'm lifting heavy and hit cardiovascular hard on light lifting days. I do 54 grams of protein in the morning and 54 more after my work out. I also take a preworkout supplement on days I lift heavy.

[/quote] this isn't the first time I've ever lifted dude. I used to lift religiously and my previous best 7 years ago was 265 three reps. Right now I'm 241 pounds, like I said I got pretty fat.

I've been drinking a 60 gram protein shake after the weight lifting. But I'm worried about getting too much protein. So sometimes I just have half. I'm not sure how much is too much.

I'm no expert on this shit but 60 after your workout is pretty decent imo. Just drink it over like a half hour period you can't absorb that much right away.

Most sources I've read say 1 gram per pound at your ideal body weight. That's if you're trying to add mass, and half should come from your diet and the other half from supps.

you can find vast amounts of info on bodybuilding.com, i go there and i go to my brother for advice (but this doesnt help you)

right now im 190 (6'2) and bulking... my ultimate goal is like 235 8% bf

right now i dont need it but im interested in going on a cycle just to try it..

I have also decided to go back to the gym. I'm back to my old 3 days a week weight-training, and filling the in-betweens with aerobic e.g. running, rowing etc.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that 60grams or protein isn't a lot. I believe the recommended intake is 1-1.5 grams per pound of lbm, which means you should probably be getting someone around 200 grams a day depending on you goals.

I'm personally looking toward slimming down, so I'm on a calorie deficit (or i should be) because I [1] would hate to have a bodybuilders physique and [2] I want to grapple at a lower weight and [3] the amount of food I would have to consume to get big without looking like a fat-ass would become depressing, I know because I tried it in the past and got burned out really fast.

I'm also not concerned with being super strong, I'll throw in powerlifting techniques every now and then, but I'd rather focus on being able to work at a beastly pace nonstop.

Thanks. Yea that's what I've heard. I'm down to 197 from 218.8 in about 3 months. I'm happy with results so far but I still want to get down to 190 then 185 then maybe 180. I've already lost a lot of fat and I've noticed a fairly significant difference in my phsyique.

I used to graple at my martial arts dojo in highschool. I liked that. I was 180 and really thin and wirey. I was actually pretty decent at it.

Some ass was trying to tell me that he could bench 350 today at work, so I asked when was the last time he worked out because he is a gross fat slob. Turns out he was using some rubberband machine in high-school that said it was the equivalent so I bet him a hundred bucks to try it for real at my gym, turned it down real quick.

It's not a competitive thing with me. I thought I was hilarious that he was trying to boast and it was super obvious the only thing he is lifting are hoagies into his mouth. I'm not a super fit dude either but he was basically being an ass.


I could start posting a more detailed log on how I'm doing but I doubt anyone cares

I've worked myself back up to 140 sit-ups on an incline twice a week. Also I'm up to 50 Hanging Leg Lifts to L (I don't know if that's the right name for them).

I think I need to figure out my Mass Body Fat. I'm not sure BMI is the way to go because I'm of an athletic build and have a lot of muscle. I'm going to go by a waist/tape measure.

A lot of fuckers do that. I'll be the first to admit I've never bench-pressed anything over 200lb. in my life. I've never attempted to, and don't really care to. I'm more into squats and deadlifting and have recently enjoyed something i've always hated in the past. Running.

I've noticed -and i'm not the first- that a lot of people at the gym love to do the same thing: Girls can be broken up into 2 groups: (a) elliptical machine (b) leg-extension machine and then there are those that do both, and participate in a pilates class but don't realize they're fat because they're unable to control their diet; the mentality seems to be "i'll burn it all off at the gym" .. and unless they're willing to spend 8 hours doing heavy-lifting and intense cardio, chances are they're not burning enough calories.

Then there's the guys who stand in front of a mirror doing curls, taking long breaks, walking around and then doing more curls. They also tend be top-heavy; you know! Skinny legs, meaty on top.

I've been hitting the gym consistently this week, doing nothing but cardio, since my intent is to build up endurance. I've spent the majority of the time finding a pace, pushing it and working through fatigue. Once I get to where I want to be, i'm going to jump back into a strength-routine.

When I was a member at LA fitness a few years ago I remember a guy that looked like he belonged in the 80's -mullet, sweat-band, metal shirt, walkman- would walk into the gym, set the assisted squat machine to it's max weight; get underneath it and grunt. Now this was no ordinary grunt. The guy sounded like he had just been stabbed in the face. I was surprised that none of the staff ever told him anything, and I once overheard him talking about fighting at one of the local MMA orgs (There weren't too many several years ago.) The guy was stiff as fuck, so I assume that if he did end up fighting he his body collapsed under the weight of his own head.

Anyways, I'm not in the best shape right now, but I plan to get back down to a weight I'm comfortable with (160) but my emphasis right now is aiming for a single-digit body-fat number.

One word: Calipers. Buy a pair. You can get a cheap plastic caliper that will do the job, you'll just need to input the measurements e.g. area near 'love-handles,' between your chest and armpit etc. to figure out your BMI. It's not that hard, and there's plenty of websites that allow you to plug in those values for free.

Yeah we have a lot of fake dudes at my gym. They ask a lot of questions about shit when my friend and I work out because they've never seen someone do skull crushers or use reverse grip on bench press and shit like that. It feels weird having people ask, also most of them never break a sweat while they're there. I'm also thinking of starting a blog or something to keep track of my progress after some encouragement from family and some of you who want to set up the defboard challenge. I would rather not get super negative and competitive about it but if anybody else wants to do it let me know.
